What I Wore: Midi Skirt and Blazer Combo

Hey dolls,

I hope everyone enjoyed the Easter holidays and you’re easing yourselves back to reality today, recovered from the chocolate coma, or in my case, the ‘wine flu’ 😬 I headed out in Enniscorthy with some friends on Sunday night and it was great craic, the nightclub was absolutely packed!!b9d8ae8b9bccbd1e8b880a21fb5fab96

I had been working all week and wanted to get a new outfit to wear out so on Sunday I quickly popped into Wexford town and New Look was the only clothes shop open. They have some gorgeous bits in there at the moment with really stylish trends in store, like the New Romantics trend which features pastel colours, bomber jackets and floral prints – so pretty for the summer. I picked up this grey sleeveless body suit and rust button front midi skirt. I fell in love with the rust colour and the skirt is something I’ll get a lot of wear out of during the summer in work. I teamed the outfit with a khaki waterfall blazer and platform heels. I think to pull off the midi skirt at my height, (5’7”), I need to wear a high heel with it instead of a midi or court heel.

I have a love affair with this midi style of skirt. I think it looks extremely elegant and there are so many ways that you can style it, making each look unique to your personal taste. I’ve got a couple and styled them a new way each time I’ve worn them so they’re a key piece in my wardrobe, whether it’s the prom style skirt or something softer with a flow to it.

Style Inspiration

I’ve pulled some style inspiration for you in the photos below to show different ways you could accessorise your own midi skirt, for casual wear or if you’re getting dolled up. The first style with the printed skirt is so pretty. Here, the skirt is the focal point of the outfit so it’s teamed with block colours in neutral shades so as not to overshadow the skirt.e37faaba87b276b607da513eb946b22d

Pleats are going to be huge for the summer this year and you’ll already see them in the likes of Topshop and H&M, so in a midi skirt it adds another dimension to the look with a bit more body and when you walk, the skirt flows effortlessly.

I adore this particular look 😍 The skirt is a real memorable, statement piece with lots of ornate detail on it. Wouldn’t this be just perfect for a wedding guest, (in different colours maybe), or for a dinner dance?b30e2fbb9103264565c31556228e9911

This is a casual twist on the look by popping on some canvas shoes with it. I think Adidas Superstar trainers would actually work really well with a midi skirt for a young, trendy vibe.058f0aab0f3893fc49ad0e2b56bedbdd

Finally, stripes are another huge trend right now and a monochrome colour combination allows you to create endless amounts of looks as it will team up with so many different colours.b61161b6b478fdac6367c5cf4081a9d3

I hope those looks gave you a little bit of style inspiration and don’t forget to share your own looks with me on Facebook, Instagram or Snapchat (UN 👻 holychic_blog) – I love to see how other people pull their looks together and put their own stamp on it!

Love, Denise x
