4 Ways to Wear Velvet!

4 Ways to Wear Velvet!

Hey dolls!

Now that it’s November I’m so excited to share some more fashion posts with you focusing on the impending Christmas season! The high street retailers are getting their high-winter or Christmas party stock in over the next few weeks and in todays post I wanted to spotlight a trend that is set to take over and can already been spotted on the rails of your favourite shops – Velvet! It’s so on trend and won’t be going away anytime soon. Although it’s a marmite material, (you’ll either love it or hate it), there are so many different options out there now that will make it easy for you to incorporate a lil’ bit of velvet into your looks 😉

Velvet On Top

A great way to test the water without spending a fortune is to introduce a velvet finish top to your wardrobe. They can easily be dressed up or down, depending on the occasion. Teamed with your denim jeans and a little loafer you can really update an everyday look.

A casual look I love is throwing a sweater over a jersey midi dress with a pair of trainers or Converse, so a velvet finish sweater like this one from New Look would be ideal for that. It’s more of an autumn or spring time look given the weather we get here in Ireland, but it’s just another way to wear the trend, giving longevity and versatility to the pieces you buy.

One thing I’ve noticed selling through really well lately are the leather look jeans and coated leggings – everyone wants a pair, so you could play with textures on a night out by combining your velvet top with these coveted pants and a simple barely-there midi heel. A really chic, trendy look!

Premium Casual

Another casual way to wear the trend is with a velvet bomber jacket. You’re ticking two stylish boxes at once here as bomber jackets are still really en vogue for the winter. The velvet finish gives a warmer, cosier appearance and most of them ooze opulence with gold zips and quilted detail. Here are a couple of my favourites..

Accessorise It Right

As with any trend, a great way to trial them, and decide if you love it or not, is to introduce them in your accessories. This little nod to the trend is subtle, yet stylish and shows that you have your eye on the ball fashion-wise. These dinky little embossed velvet bags from River Island are ideal for the party season as they will go with absolutely any outfit, they’re just big enough to hold the essentials and the cross body gold chain strap is key 👌🏼 Is there anything more annoying than having to hold your clutch in your hand all night?!

Baseball caps are having a moment right now, I think Yeezy Season 4 and all the Instagram models have something to do with that one! Combine both trends with a velvet cap and you’re good to go! Again, theres no need to break the bank – these ASOS ones are on sale at the moment for just €7 and €8!

Of course, a post about velvet couldn’t pass by without me mentioning my beloved chokers! I have to admit that I was not a fan of them when they made a comeback last year but the choker trend has grown on me and if you follow my social media posts, you’ll often see me sporting one nowadays 😜 Penneys and New Look have the best selections that I’ve seen so far, theres a style to suit every taste whether you want a plain, skinny one or something a little bit more jazzy!

Dress to Impress

If you have a Christmas party, wedding or night out planned, these looks might give you some inspiration on how to work the velvet style without it looking like overkill! A Little Black Dress is always a good idea and I like how this one has longer sleeves too. With a pop of colour in your accessories, this would be a smouldering outfit 😉🔥

The midi length dress is always very flattering too – ensuring that your hem finishes at the dimple in your knee, i.e. the slimmest part of your leg, is the trick to hacking this style of dress. These two from Missguided are quite plain so it’s all about how you dress them up and put your own stamp on them!

This wrap style dress from Pretty Little Thing may very well be my favourite piece from this post! It’s super sophisticated with a mid-length hem and bracelet length sleeves as well as being extremely flattering with the wrap around skirt and elasticated waist. The champagne colour is to die for and this would make a fabulous outfit for a wedding guest, definitely! It also comes in black velvet and pink velvet finishes and an array of other colours in a polyester finish – you can see them all here.

There’s so much of this trend to be seen on the high street and online right now so you’re sure to find endless ways to incorporate it into your wardrobe whichever way you wish. I have lots of style images pinned on my Pinterest which you’ll find here 🤗 I hope you’ve found some inspiration from this post and don’t forget to share your take on the trends with me on Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat or Twitter 😄
