Happy New Year guys!!
Can you believe it, another year has come to an end & today is the first page of the next chapter?! I hope you enjoyed ringing in the New Year last night, however you did it 🎉 A close group of friends and I went into town for the night and it was the best fun! I have an amazing group of friends and I have so many great memories with them all, especially in 2015. In general it was a great year but it was over in what felt like a flash 😨 In this post I wanted to look back on my highlights of the past year, some of which will be news to you seeing as Holy Chic is so new.
My 21st Birthday
My definite number one highlight was celebrating my 21st in July. This occasion will be a memory that I’ll always look back on and want to relive, honestly it was the best night. I worked so hard to plan this party and it happened exactly how I wanted it to with the people I care about most. For me, it’s so important to celebrate the milestones – it can’t be all work, work, work. You need to reap the rewards as well and make memories with your family and friends.
College Achievements
In October I received a letter to tell me that I had been awarded a Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Academic Achievement by the Dean of the School of Business in the Waterford Institute of Technology. This genuinely came as a huge shock to me as I didn’t even know that the Dean’s List existed, never mind what was required to be awarded it! Basically, when you achieve a 1.1, (over 70% average) in the year, you are awarded a place on the list. I don’t count myself as a book worm and I’ve never felt any pressure to be a grade A student, I muddled through my Leaving Cert and that was enough for me 😂 But I think because I’m now studying an area that I have a real passion for in Retail Management, I enjoy the work that we do in my course, (most of the time), and it doesn’t feel like studying at all then 😄 If you’re reading this and feel that it might be a course you’d be interested in drop me an email and I’d be delighted to fill you in on it. I might even do a proper blog post about it in the future, let me know if it’s something you guys would like to see.
New Beginnings
I started my job in La Crème Boutique in May so it fell just at the right time as I had finished my first year of college and would end up working there full time for the summer. I love my stylist position here, between La Crème and owner Marian’s second boutique LC2. I’ve learned so much, in a variety of aspects – in styling, in how to run a business, even just in terms of interacting with different characters – and have personally grown a lot as a result. I believe that, like with college, when you’re doing something that you love, it doesn’t feel like work at all and you actually enjoy it much more which I feel very blessed about.
Travels
In 2015 I visited Prague for the first time. One of my best friends was studying over there for the semester so myself and 2 more of my besties went to visit her in November, the same time that 2 of our other friends were visiting too so the six of us had an absolute ball! Only for her studying there, I’d of never though ‘Oh this is definitely a city I have on my bucket list’ but my opinion was completely changed and I will definitely have to go back there again. Prague is a beautiful city, extremely clean and the public transport is like clockwork which is dead handy for us visitors. It was great to have the week to catch up properly with my friends and experience everything that Prague had to offer; the food, the sights and the nightlife!
2015 really was a great year for me. As always, there were ups and downs but I can look back on memories like the ones I’ve highlighted above with happiness. I haven’t really given proper thoughts to my goals for 2016 yet but over the next week I hope to do that properly – I might even share them here? Let me know if you’d like me to write about them and share what your goals are too if you want to 😄 For now, have a Healthy and Happy New Year and I’ll be back here again very soon 😘
Love, Denise x
I wish i’d celebrated or marked my 21st like you did, that’s the one thing I love about vlogging and blogging I am capturing the every day moments and giggles with out even thinking about. And its a great tool to bring back the memories!
I totally agree Sonja, it’s one of the massive benefits of blogging! Great to be able to look back on the memories and see how we’ve grown and changed and relive the good times in our minds 🙂
