Style Round Up: 74th Annual Golden Globes

Style Round Up Title Image

The first major awards ceremony of the new year took place last night. The 74th Golden Globes were held in California over night and while I’m no film or TV buff, I was interested in one thing & one thing only – the style! As it’s the first big red carpet of the year I think everyone tries to put their best foot forward and goes all out, especially the designers trying to embody the trends of the Spring/Summer season to come. You could see a lot of that in last nights looks, there were plenty of nods to the impending trends.

With every red carpet there are bound to be those completely embellished silver and golden gowns with stiletto heels and big hair but what I love are the looks that go beyond that, step outside of the ‘glam Hollywood’ norm and dare to be different. As always with my Style Round Up posts, I just feature the looks that I personally love! I’m not here to critique anyone’s styles as fashion is completely open to ones own interpretation so I’m all about celebrating the styles that stood out for me.

Zoe Saldana

The first of these was Zoe Saldana wore wore a silk chiffon Gucci dress. I love the colours and how well they compliment her colouring. It’s a pretty, feminine, almost whimsical style but I think it’s beautiful and is a refreshing choice for this time of year. The satin bow is also the perfect addition to the tiered skirt and finishes the look nicely.

Jessica Biel

At first I wondered did I like Jessica Biel’s dress or not but it’s one of those styles; the more I looked at it, the more I fell in love with it. This is a couture piece from Elie Saab’s Autumn/Winter ’16 collection. The velvet plunging neckline leads into a fuller geo-print skirt with thigh high slit. I love the bottom half of the dress, especially the floral detailing. I also like how Jessica wore it with a drop earring and slick updo, as compared to the catwalk look which saw the addition of a statement necklace – a little bit too much for this style.

Olivia Culpo

Someone who very rarely gets it wrong on the red carpet is former Miss USA Olivia Culpo. I just love her style in general so I’m always excited to see what her and her team put together for awards ceremonies. This year she stunned and is topping all of the Best Dressed lists today! Her Zuhair Murad black organza gown is just a piece of couture art; the colours are so rich and all of the embellishment is to-die-for! This is such a statement and the make up, braided hair and Lorraine Schwartz jewels are just 👌🏼👌🏼

Emily Ratajkowski

There’s no surprise that one of Olivia’s besties was also on my radar – Emily Ratajkowski smouldered in this yellow silk Reem Acra gown. I love the contrast of the colour and the gunmetal embellishment. Just look at the detail at the back of the dress, it’s a showstopper but I think it’s something that only Emily could pull off, she looks like a golden goddess and has a real sexy sense of style!

Lily Collins

Another fabulous Zuhair Murad design graced the red carpet on Lily Collins. She looked so beautiful and almost regal in the soft pink backless gown. This was a real fairytale princess look but I love how she put her own spin on it with the red lip and strong brows. The floral detailing looks so delicate, especially on the sheer neckline, it’s such a dreamy look. When you see this look on the TV or red carpet coverage, you’ll see the subtle sparkle that runs through it also and how the tulle skirt moves beautifully.

Sarah Jessica Parker

Sarah Jessica Parker is a fashion icon, simple! I think everything she touches turns to gold and there are some ‘out-there’ looks that only she can make work. Last night she chose this all white Vera Wang gown which features the cold shoulder trends that is here to stay for 2017. Remember SJP is petite so it’s incredible that this dress didn’t swallow her up whole. There’s something about it that just ticks the box for me, I don’t know is it the super long sleeves or the deconstructed look which you will see a lot of this coming season. I think she’s on the money in this look anyway 👍🏼

Amy Adams

The next look is very simple yet chic. I really liked how Amy Adams pulled together this extremely sleek, minimalistic outfit. The black sequins are a more subtle way of wearing and I adore how the Tom Ford design scoops up at the front, it looks really structured and crisp. The whole look is great, slicked back hair parted in the middle with those simple ankle strap platform heels; it’s all very simple yet elegant.

Ruth Negga

Flying the Irish flag on the night was Ruth Negga who was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture. She wore a custom Louis Vuitton gown designed by Nicolas Ghesquiere and although this is one of those marmite styles, I think it works with Ruth’s look. The futuristic design featured zip details on the front, back and sides and it sparkled beautifully under the California sunset.

Blake Lively

Sure we all go weak at the knees for Blake Lively, isn’t that right girls? This woman can do no wrong and last night was no different as she slayed the red carpet with her husband Ryan Reynolds, (couple goals 💖💑) Blake wore an Atelier Versace black velvet gown complete with a ‘dripping-in-gold-esque’ neckline and pockets. The figure hugging fit of this dress is incredible on Blake and ye all know by now, I’m a divil for a good train, like this one 😍 I think the cherry on top of this look is the jewellery. The addition of two chunky emerald bracelets is genius and of course, I can’t source the designer online, but they have Lorraine Schwartz written all over them IMO!

Chrissy Teigen

I feel like this look is very Victorian-inspired, very regal and my God, it’s good!! Chrissy Teigen could wear a bin liner and still look sensational but instead she chose a Marchesa design for the occasion. It just looks so plush and vampy, extremely rich and I love the little ruby clutch bag and deep red lip. The peplum on the skirt is a great shape too and shows off Chrissy’s enviable figure to perfection. Chrissy was styled by Monica Rose, one of my favourite stylists who is just simply Killing It at the moment, I love her work!

Giuliana Rancic

There was a bit of a theme with the fairytale luxe dresses but I have to say I thought Giuliana Rancic looked fabulous! Styled by Rebecca Gross, Giuliana wore a stunning Rani Zakhem hand painted floral gown. Again, the detailing in this design is just beyond incredible and I love the high neck, sleeveless look. I really like the style of dress on her and when you’re covering the red carpet for E! you have to pull out all the stops, naturally 💃🏼😉

After Party Style

While the fashion at the awards ceremony was next to perfection, lets not forget all of the glamorous after parties that saw the stars party until the wee hours of the morn! The style was just as good and some fashionistas really stood out for me.

Kristin Cavallari

Kristin Cavallari actually attended the Golden Globes but I much preferred the dress that she changed into for the after party 🔥 She looked red hot in deep coral Maria Lucia Hohan chiffon dress. It had a really fresh, summery vibe to it, teamed with her flowing beachy waves and a dewy glow to her make up.

Kendall and Kylie Jenner

Of course, it wouldn’t be a bash without some of the Kardashian/Jenner klan so Kendall and Kylie represented the fam at an after party. They were each others dates on the night and documented the night on Snapchat, as per usual. Although they sported matching top knots, you can tell that they have their own sense of style. Kendall is really chic and minimal while Kylie is a little more dramatic and loves her bling! Her jaw-dropping dress was designed by Labourjoisie and Kendall wore a strapless dress with thigh high slit by Paule Ka.
