It’s no lie, Spring Summer is definitely my favourite season style-wise. I love the fresh trends that the spring time brings with it; bright colour, pretty prints and a cool, refreshed image takes over. We can banish the heavy knitwear and black garments to the back of the wardrobe for another couple of months at least, Byeee Felicia 👋🏼
Working at New Look, I love having the opportunity to see the trends emerge and new fashion come in. One of the key trends for this season is what we call Patriot and it’s all about making a bold statement! I wanted to share some of the key pieces that I think really embody the trend with you all and are from a variety of retailers and price points. It’s important to refresh your wardrobe every season and that doesn’t mean throwing it all out and starting from scratch! It just means that by understanding the trends and introducing a couple of new pieces, you can totally change your look.
Stripes and gingham are the two prints that will dominate the trend so pieces like this striped bardot style top from River Island are on the money. You see those little ties on the sleeves? Yep, they’re another element of this trend.
As are the bell sleeves on this striped top from New Look. With white jeans and a classic pair of red Converse, you’re casual wardrobe is summer-ready. Swap for this gingham knot front top from Penneys and you have another stylish look 👍🏼
Slogan tees are back with a bang also – I think this frill sleeve one from River Island is too cute and would be sweet with a little skirt when the weather starts to get warmer but equally as good with your favourite jeans right now and these cute Penneys trainers.
This red stripe t-shirt is a subtle nod to the trend and you could wear this with absolutely anything; jeans, leggings, under a leather jacket or a dungarees dress, (another piece you will see in this trend) so it’s extremely versatile. It also comes in blue and is perfectly chic 👌🏼
if you’re feeling brave and want to make a real statement, these gingham frill trousers from Topshop are really unique! You could really dress them up with a high heel and red clutch bag too.
Colour blocking is another trend that comes around time and time again. This season the colours are much brighter; think Red, Mustard, Blue, Soft Pink and crisp White. What better way to lift your spirits than with an injection of colour, right?!
I mentioned this on Snapchat recently and it’s true, the puffer jacket is going to be THE coat you need in your life! Even today in college I spotted so many girls sporting this style. The great thing about them is that they’re cosy and practical as well as being on trend.
Mom’s the Word
The perfect accompaniment with those tops is definitely a loose fit denim; out with those skinnies!! They definitely can be hard to pull off which is why I would suggest trying a couple of different styles and there are a few to choose from – Mom jeans, Boyfriend fit, High Rise or Straight leg – you’re sure to find one that’s right for you.
Embroidery is obviously a huge trend, it has been all over the winter and it’s not going anywhere. I shared a picture of some embroidered denim jeans on my Instagram recently and they certainly divided opinion! What do you think of them girls?
I always say this, but accessories really are a great way to test the water with a new trend. If you’re unsure of whether the trend is for you or not, accessories are a cost-effective way of doing this before you commit to something more costly like a coat or quality pair of jeans. The 3 that stand out in the Patriot trend are most definitely a block colour rucksack or cross body bag, a pair of lace up trainers and a necktie.
